I'm happy to announce that my snowflake photos was chosen as cover for music album "1975 Triptych" by M-Opus, Irish progressive rock band.

This snowflake is relatively big (around 4 millimeters from tip to tip), with simple shape, but complex inner pattern (especially at arms). If you look closely at this crystal, you may notice that it slightly resembles triangular snowflakes: like these snow crystals, it have hexagonal symmetry, but with interleaving shorter / longer sides of central hexagon. In this case, however, triangular structure is hardly noticeable.

Also, you can find small and simple plate crystal at surface of bigger one, and this tiny companion also have triangular structure, with three shorter and three longer sides. This is strange and beautiful couple, in my opinion.

This is medium size snowflake (around 3 millimeters from tip to tip), with beautiful relief surface. I was lucky with lighting of this crystal, so all surface details are clearly visible. This snowflake have good symmetry, except for tips of the arms, and unusual center: this pattern of rings looks strange when compared to straight lines on the arms. Anyway, this crystal is one of my favorites from all catch of January 2015.

This snowflake was captured on sheet of glass, with LED back lighting, using additional lens Helios 44 as magnifier (you can see article about snowflake macro photography, if you are curious about macro setup and techniques i use). 12 identical RAW photos, captured as quick series, was averaged to boost signal-to-noise ratio and reveal subtle details of the crystal.

Snowflake photo: Flower within a flower (1024 x 768)

This tiny snowflake was not bigger than 1 millimeter from tip to tip. Despite it's simple shape, typical for such small snow crystal, it have really amazing, dense and complex pattern inside central hexagon and near of outer rim. Inner pattern remind me flower, placed with recursion within another flower; and 12 elements in outer pattern resembles resistors on print circuits. So, this is some sort of "computer-inspired snowflake". :)

9 identical RAW photos was taken as quick series, aligned and averaged for dramatically better signal/noise ratio of this picture. It was captured on large sheet of glass with LED back lighting, using Canon Powershot A650is and additional lens Helios 44M-5, reversely mounted in front of camera's optics, January 2015 in Moscow, Russia.
