This is very high resolution (10000 x 10000 pixels) collage with 18 real snowflake macro photos, captured at dark grey woolen fabric in natural light from cloudy sky. All snow crystals you see here keeps their original resolution and was not re-scaled, so their difference in size is real.

This collage presents wide range of snowflake sizes and shapes: from simple triangular and hexagonal plate crystals to large and complex stellar dendrites.

I used one of these really nice free canvas textures for background.

If you are curious about these snowflakes, you can see them in full size: Molten glass, Capped column, The beauty of imperfection, Alioth, Radiant green, Ice rainbow, Starlight, Jewel, Ice crown, The core, Vega, Alien's data disk, Almost triangle, Web, Hex appeal, Shine, Complicated thing and Slight asymmetry. Some of these snowflakes also available as Ultra HD wallpapers.

And here is similar collage, but with bright snowflake photos, captured on glass surface with LED back lighting:

Ultra HD 4k desktop wallpaper with these collages available on page wallpapers:

Revisited House of Music. I really like this building and it's environment. With new processing, it reminds me some place of underwater city Rapture from great game Bioshock.

Moscow, august 2014. HDR processing from 5 exposures (i used averaging of source exposures for better clarity and colors: 4 shots for brightest and 8 for each other exposure, 36 shots total).

Decided to change name of blog. New name taken from amazing short story "The Keys to December" by Roger Zelazny, one of my favourite writers. This story, though takes place in cold world, in distant future, have strong relation to our world and our time.
During their last month of duty, Sanza asked him, "Will everything die here but us? The green birds and the big eaters of flesh? The funny little trees and the hairy caterpillar?"

"I hope not," said Jarry. "I've been reading back through the biologists' notes. I think life might adapt. Once it gets a start anywhere, it'll do anything it can to keep going. It's probably better for the creatures of this planet we could afford only twenty Worldchangers. That way they have three millennia to grow more hair and learn to breathe our air and drink our water. With a hundred units we might have wiped them out and had to import coldworld creatures or breed them. This way, the ones who live here might be able to make it."

"It's funny," she said, "but the thought just occurred to me that we're doing here what was done to us. They made us for Alyonal, and a nova took it away. These creatures came to life in this place, and we're taking it away. We're turning all of life on this planet into what we were on our former worlds - misfits."

Snowflake macro photo: Molten glass, big hexagonal plate crystal with amazing pattern of clover leaves, seen on transparent surface, sparkling on dark grey woolen fabric in natural light

Yet another hexagonal plate snowflake from January 2013. This snow crystal was relatively big for it's type: larger than 1 millimeter. I like how volumetric surface distorts background behind the crystal, and, of course, this incredible ring pattern in the middle: i never seen such perfect meander of four-leaf clovers in any snowflake.

12 serial RAW photos was aligned and averaged to boost signal-to-noise ratio of the picture. Background: dark grey woolen fabric, natural light from cloudy sky, external optics Helios 44M-5, Moscow, Russia.

This simple GIF animation shows averaging technique benefits:
